Amazon Best Sellers Rank:

Listened to the entire trilogy on audiobooks and love all Ms. Roberts's work, however this trilogy was at times just too weird and somewhat confusing in parts. Unlike other of her trilogys, the ending on the first two segments were more of a cliff hanger, and I don't care for those. The narration for this particular segment was the worst I have ever listened to and I Iisten to audiobooks every day. This was delivered by a female narrator who sounded as though she had her hand over her mouth the entire time, and there was absolutely no change in inflection between characters so you had a hard time knowing who was talking. The entire narration was one monotone. The narrators on the first and third segment were done by males and were excellent. Narration here gets one star.

Ms. Roberts gives us the continuing story of three best friends who were fated from birth to awaken then end a centuries old curse. The first installment, Blood Brothers, which I checked out of the library, was so good, I ordered the next two from Amazon. Roberts wonderfully combines romance with the paranormal and the occult, that leaves you believing that anything is possible. She researches her subject matter wonderfully so that if you are a believer, you won't find much amiss in her stories. What makes her stories and characters so believable is that she combines real world imagery, like talking of the Orioles (I'm from Baltimore) and the Inner Harbor with the supernatural seamlessly. I highly recommend this story line.. It is excellent!

This second book picks up the story two weeks later. Fox tries to help Layla hone her senses, so they can present a united front, and be as useful as Cal, Quinn, Sybil, and Gage is with their gifts. Since they sense things in the present, he knows how important it is for them to be at full strength when the demon next makes an appearance. Fox felt fortunate for the two-week lull in activity, but knew that had come to an end when he and Layla were attacked by a swarm of crows in the middle of Main Street. Layla got to see first hand the healing powers Fox possessed when his pecking wounds healed almost instantly. As the group tries to figure out more about the puzzles from the past, the demon escalates the attacks. Instead of just focusing on one person, they are all in jeopardy at any given time. They realize that his strength is nothing like anything that they have ever encountered in the past, but that makes sense now that they know this cycle of seven is the final showdown. The creepiness just gets better with each book. I enjoyed this second installment in the trilogy, and don't like having to wait until the end of the year for the conclusion with Gage and Sybil though. This book was Layla and Fox's story, but again as in the last book, all characters had a strong presence, which really adds a strong element.

I was curious as to how the demon was demolished so, after listening with interest (but not enthusiasm after the first half)to "Blood Brothers" I read "The Hollow," the second in this trilogy. As I said in my review of "Blood Brothers" I am not a fan of romance. I knew this was loaded with romance starting out and thus predicted I would skip over the sappy parts of this book with the end in sight. My prediction was correct; I skipped much. This second of the trilogy is essentially the story of the likable Fox. It's good that Fox is likable because there is just way too much information about every concern in his life along with excruciating dialogue and details of his romance with Layla.Since I have now read all three of the books, I have to say this is the weakest of them all. That said, I still wanted to know what happened so on to #3.

4 Stars because it was published in paperback. I would have been far less generous if I'd been compelled to purchase a hardcover just because it has Nora's name on it.Paranormal has never been my favorite genre, however Nora Roberts has always handled it well. What I enjoy most about her stories are the relationships - between guy friends, family, neighbors, community. These are the relationships we so often forget to look at when trying to concentrate on romance and I believe Roberts does a lovely job of reminding all of us.That being said, this trilogy is definitely not my favorite. The story just lacks oomph! (for want of a better word). I will say it's worth the price of a paperback and a lazy afternoon read!

This book was a good read, great continuance of the Hollow series. I can't wait for Gage's book in December!I would have rated the book 5 stars except for the following issues: the romance between Layla and Fox just wasn't all that exciting. It was lukewarm. It took until the middle of the book before they even got together. No steaminess, no excitement. But that might have also been partly because of the figurate descriptions of the love scenes, not sure. I really couldn't figure what they were doing due to the figurative descriptions and then it's all over. Is this the new trend?I read Nora Robert's books primarily for the romance, but in this case, the whole Hawkin's Hollow curse story and all the evil events that ensued was the primary focus. I really don't care about Ann's diary which consisted of nothing helpful, just a bunch of fluff and nonsense. So why would we want to read it? The author could have just summed it up in a sentence. The other thing that bothered me was the weirdness of Fox donating sperm to his sister's girlfriend so they could have a baby. So that would make him the father and the uncle? How weird is that. And it kind of bugged me that he would become a father to someone else's baby first before his own with Layla. Maybe it's just me, but that whole situation was just too strange to be taken seriously.

This is book two of the "Sign of 7" trilogy. Book one is "Blood Brothers" and book three is "Pagan Stone." Im actually reading this trilogy for the second time -- it's THAT good!!! It's a little dark and twisted, but still very positive and uplifting. These books are page turnera. Nora Roberts is amazing!!
